Feasibility study to rebuild a primary school with a new secondary school in Tulse Hill for London Borough of Lambeth

SCABAL were commissioned to produce a Masterplan to assess the viability of building a new six form entry Academy on the St Martin’s Estate in Tulse Hill, Lambeth. This would involve the demolition and rebuilding of the existing three form entry Fenstanton Primary School, with a new secondary school to be built alongside. The Masterplan examines two options requested by Lambeth and proposed a third which has now been adopted to make the City Heights Academy and co-located Fenstanton primary School.

St Martin’s Estate in Lambeth is blessed with large areas of landscape which, though well-cared for is undervalued as a local resource. Sloping grass lawns and mature trees lend a park-like ambience to the outdoor spaces between blocks of different areas and conditions. This masterplan focuses on the positive and social aspects of the landscape, and exploits the complexities of the steep topography between the sites, to produce proposals that create both new schools and amenities for community use which combine to knit the landscape of the estate together to form a Community Campus for schools, park and housing.
