Hugo Road Garden Room

Permitted development

Back extension on Victorian house, Camden London

Living in the garden and living in the roof are the planned two parts that complete this single house expansion, carried out as permitted development within the Tufnell Park Conservation Area.

Now, this first part sends the lower ground floor of the late Victorian house six metres further into the garden, providing a new 30m² kitchen beneath the original two-storey extension. The deep new kitchen roof hides the transfer structure for the old house above and is covered in an extensive succulent blanket, all held up by a single rose-silvered column in the far corner.

The walls are glass doors, sliding to open the kitchen and the garden in different ways. The heated floor is covered in green buttoned rubber. Living in the roof will replace the entire rear slate pitch of the house roof with super-insulated glass opening lights.
