Park swap

Masterplan for the expansion of St John and St James CE Primary School, Enfield, London

St John and St James sits next to an underused and unloved green space between different eras of housing bounded by a railway track. As an alternative to extending the existing 60’s built one-form-entry primary school with a larger building than the existing school, SCABAL first worked with LDBS to examine a land-swap arrangement between the two neighbours with a view to improving the future amenity of both. The school would get an entirely new building with expanded accommodation and courtyard playgrounds and the park a new outlook, planting and perimeter treatments. Both would share a multi-use games area forming the bridge and gateway between.
