16-18-year-olds feel, as they progress and move into sixth form, the need for a separate pastoral identity with greater privileges. UCL Academy are looking for an extra space, a permanent base for their sixth form cohort with a space for independent study, enhanced library facilities and social area. This single pleated room tiptoes onto a free wooded garden space outside the school but hugging close to the main entrance. It’ll be formed, concertina style, with structural pleating made from timber sticks and sheets into an extruded box to sit atop steel screw piles selectively dodging the tree roots below.
